“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.” ― Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Let me make one thing clear before we start. Fox News is not news. It is a phantasmagorical dream factory for persons who in the final analysis want nothing more than to sleep the Morpheus dreams of an eternity in purgatory swimming in the what they perceive to an endless sea of peace and tranquility.
In other words, they want nothing and if they keep going down the current path the GQP is on, will get their wish, in abundance. Can you blame them? In today’s ever faster and faster moving world, where the idea of dealing in numbers, sheer quantity as in not only millions, billions, but trillions, and if Jeff “Spaceman” Bezos has his way, quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion, septillion, octillion, nonillion, and decillion in dollars and cents, you know, hoarder’s dementia will be the new standards for measuring “true” wealth, although no one person can spend all that sweet green during their lifetime.
In other words, on the other side of reality, or Earth II as some are wont to call it, drowning in some form of unreality seems to be the new pursuit of happiness that unfortunately, ends in nothing. Some call it satori, bliss and nirvana, some call it nihilism. Either way the result will be the same.
The truly unfortunate part is in this day and age of Covid-19 and all of its mutations, some of which have yet to materialize, but don’t worry you who are anxious to see the next even deadlier strain come into being, it will, and if death be part of the bargain for eternal slumber in a land where there is no government and no one pays taxes, well, let’s just say be careful what you wish for, as when it comes to viruses they will be more than happy to have you as their next unwitting victim of an age old dance that without active medical and remedial steps taken, the virus will not lose.
In terms of the political landscape, you might be asking yourself how did we get here? Do you remember this famous quote from Ben Franklin?
“Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” –Ben Franklin
Well ha-ha Benny, cause if I die, I won’t have to pay taxes, now will I? Now, keeping in mind that attitude doesn’t make a whole lot of practical sense, but if your only goal in life is to own a liberal such as Ben Franklin, it probably makes perfectly good sense, at least in dollars and cents.
You might laugh but I have known so many people, many of which I believe for the most part sane, that consider taxation, any kind, with or without representation to be a form of tyranny and government gone wild. Never mind that our taxes build our bridges and streets, even fill potholes from time to time, arm our military and in so many ways allow us to prosper not only as a nation but as individuals as well. Taxes grease the wheels of progress and progress leads to new and better innovations in science, technology, the arts and life.
Unless of course your mission in life is to be a kamikaze and smash yourself into the nearest battleship with an American flag and take as many of us with you as you can. Again, life in the time and age of Covid-19.
You doubt me? Then why is there an ongoing OxyContin opioid crisis? Why is cheap and easily accessible heroine making comeback? That is of course assuming it ever left? Short-term numbing of the pain for what will in most cases end in another statistical death and strangely, the avoidance of taxes.
Worth it? Not to me, but then again, I have had all three of my vaccines and have no intention of living this life in service of the possibility of a better one in the next. I’ll take my chances, including paying my fair share of taxes right here where the sun is up, the sky is blue and the sea is a lovely shade of aquamarine if you happen to live in the right place.
We were not born with original or any sin at all. We were not placed within this realm with one foot tied behind our back. The foibles of our humanity are nothing to be ashamed of and in fact, we should all be willing to make our own mistakes and claim them as our own. Each error teaching as much or more as our successes that are for most persons, if you think about it, many.
Don’t dwell on the past. It’s not going to change. Don’t fret about the future. It’s not here yet. When you get up in the morning, look up, not down. Take the time to stop and smell the coffee brewing each and every morning. If there is a cinnamon bun in the scenario all the better for in the long run, heaven is where you find it. Can you imagine an eternity without baked goods? I can’t.
Once again, dear readers, I remind you that you in and of yourselves, me included are miracles of the highest caliber. We were created to live, to laugh and to love and when we stick to this core mission, possibly finding the courage to incorporate the happiness and well-being of not only ourselves but all our brothers and sisters for we are truly one, we attain the grace and reap the glory of the celestial. In this manner, not appearance, or physical perception of any kind do we find ourselves made in the image of our Creator, and it is good.
Or, you can keep insisting that an afterlife in hell, without taxes or liberals to deal with is the better way to go. The choice is yours. Namaste.
